We are currently scheduled to leave Seattle on 7 March 2020 for the Trafalgar “Wonders Of Italy Winter” tour beginning on 8 March. We tried calling Trafalgar yesterday 24 February but the agent was unconcerned about the Corona virus.

Currently several areas in Northern Italy are quarantined and over 300 people are infected and several deaths. The number of infected people is rapidly increasing daily (an increase of 50 percent from yesterday to today). It is not safe to travel there currently with several countries advising their citizens against travel to Italy. Also there are two confirmed cases in Rome.

No one knows if the virus is contained to the quarantined cities because we do not know where those people were before the quarantine started.

It is irresponsible for Trafalgar to say that it is save to travel to Italy. They are putting lives at risk and very likely spreading the disease well beyond Italy's borders. We are sorry that it will cost Trafalgar money to refund or postpone this trip BUT Trafalgar's liability could cost a great deal more due to deaths and the spread of the virus.

From a world health perspective this tour should not be offered at this time.

We have talked with a MD who consults with the World Health Organization and she advised us against traveling to Italy at this time. We are requesting a full refund and we will reschedule this trip when the virus is under control and there is a vaccine available.

Location: Oak Harbor, Washington

I’m in a similar situation. Have a Trafalgar tour of eight countries over 12 days with 4 of them planned for Italy.

Found out today that they have changed our itinerary from Italy to Austria and Germany. If they are doing this, I should be able to cancel for full refund as this is not what I purchased.

Waiting to hear back. Trip departs on 3/17.

We know what your going through. My wife and I are scheduled to travel on the 13 day Best of Italy Tour leaving on March 1.

We have tried to work with Trafalgar about rescheduling our trip. We have major health and safety concerns about traveling to Italy due to the Coronavirus. We are willing to reschedule the trip for the same time period next year where the public will have more knowledge of how to address and contain the virus going forward. We are not looking to exchange and profit from cancelling out trip.

Their policy states that if we choose not to go, will will lose 50% of the trip cost. This is not only our concern, this is a worldly concern. A policy is a guideline. It should not be black and white.

Its not that we dont want to go to italy. We just want to travel at a safer time. Its our once in a lifetime vacation and has been a dream of my wifes to tour italy. We are celebrating 20 years together.

We should not have to worry about contracting the virus. The Tour director contacted us and stated that there are no health concerns for the places we are touring. I stated if there are no concerns, why are there pictures of travelers standing in front of the colosseum wearing masks, why are law enforcement officials in Venice wearing mask? No concerns.

You decide. I wish you the best. If Trafagar does not work with us and continues to be selfish and not caring about the well being of their travelers, we will never book with them again. Good luck with your travel plans.

Wishing you the best. Sincerely Concerned in New Jersey

Yours is a now very common conundrum now. This situation with corona virus appears to be turning into a pandemic and travel agencies, cruise lines, and all others that depend on tourism are going to be financially hurt.

I assume you have already paid most if not all of the tour. Trafalgar won't cancel the tour or refund your money unless travel to the areas you are due to visit is forbidden by the federal or local authorities. They may try to change the itinerary so, at that point, you can say they are not keeping to the contract you signed, etc.

and thus please refund my money. At this point, your situation is not uncommon.
